Target group(s): adult people from Europe: unemployed persons, adults not involved in formal adult education; adults who want to increase their abilities in photo techniques as part of an art interest and, also, in a perspective of gaining new work skills; no professional skills are required.

Main activities / programme of the Workshop:

An introduction in the history of portrait (worldwide, Europe, Romania); an introduction in photographic art in Romania (multimedia presentations);

Interactive presentations of Composition elements in portrait (multimedia exemplifications);

Interactive presentations of Light (natural light and studio light) in portrait (multimedia exemplifications);

Interactive presentations of Colour in portrait (multimedia exemplifications);

Practical work with different photographic equipment;

Practical work with elements of Optics;

Presentation of studio technical equipment;

Interactive studio working with a model;

Interactive outdoors working with a model;

Evaluating: delivering of an individual portfolio from each participant and organising a virtual and a printed vernissage with their work.

Expected outputs (especially in terms of the learning outcomes for the participants):

Participants will understand the role of photographic art in the realm of visual arts; also, the place that Europe and Romania (as part of European culture) has in this realm;

Participants will understand and have a good use of the aesthetical and technical issues involved in photo portrait;

Participants will have practical skills in studio and outdoors photo work and in working with a model;

Participants will develop their own photo portfolio.

A virtual and printed exhibition of the portfolio will be presented on a special website and on an art gallery.

Practical arrangements (including detailed information on the accommodation):

Chosen location is Iasi. The participants will travel by plane (due to the fact that Iasi has an international airport) or a car. The participants will accommodate at a three star hotel, downtown Iasi, in order to facilitate access to photo studios, as well as to the local cultural sites (such as galleries, museums, exhibitions etc.) in Iasi. Meals will take place in the same hotel. We pay the international and local transport, accommodation and three meals for day. Arrival and departure days are separate from the workshop days. Two days of the workshop (presentations, discussions) will take place in a conference room at the same hotel or in art gallery from Iasi; another three days of the workshop will take place in a professional photo studio; one day is allocated for a field study trip in the region of Moldavia, Romania.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE WORKSHOP ORGANISER

AXart Foundation is a NGO established in 1999. AXart’s goal is to promote a real image of Romanian artistic and cultural phenomena.

AXart Foundation works for identifying the most up-to-date cultural manifestations, specific to Romanian contemporary society, in which multiculturality and diversity of attitudes play a major role. Also, AXart wants to contribute in defining the Romanian cultural identity, by constructing its activities to capture the complexity of Romanian artistic movement.

AXart has as objectives: - to help the integration of national artistic works in the European space; - to initiate and organize exhibitions, festivals, workshops, symposiums on local, national and international level; - to create the background for debates and co-operations, for enhancing the ideas and experience exchanges between people from different countries and cultures.

Following its purpose, AXart Foundation: has organised six annual international art camps / workshops (Iasi and Cucuteni: 2000 - 2005); has accomplished a Cultural Centre in Dragomiresti, Maramures (A.F.C.N. co-financed: 2009); has opened a permanent art gallery situated in a non-conformist location – a church bell-tower (2006 - 2010) “TRICONC” Gallery; has edited and printed 3 volumes of photographic art (2008), has opened 7 personal exhibitions and 14 group exhibitions related to photography and photo-portrait in Romania, Spain, Tunisia, Moldova (2001 - 2009)
